Liver Transplantation
Deceased-donor and living-donor liver transplants for adults and children, including auxiliary and split-liver procedures for acute liver failure.
Dr. Gaurav Chaubal is Director of Multi-Organ Transplantation in Mumbai, with more than a decade spent in the operating room performing some of India's most complex abdominal organ transplants.

There is a particular kind of medicine that asks everything of a surgeon. Long nights, split-second judgement, and families who have run out of other options. Liver, pancreas and intestine transplantation lives squarely in that space, and it is where Dr. Gaurav Chaubal has built his career.
As Director of Multi-Organ Transplantation, he has spent more than ten years performing cadaveric and living-donor abdominal organ transplants across some of India's leading programs. He was an integral part of the first 250 liver transplants at Global Hospital, Mumbai, later led the abdominal transplant and HPB surgery programs at Jupiter Hospitals in Thane and Pune, and went on to head multi-organ transplant and robotic surgery at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai.
What sets his practice apart is range. He operates on adults and children alike, handles single-organ and simultaneous multi-organ transplants, and brought one of the country's early robotic donor hepatectomy programs to life. For living donors, that means faster recovery, with smaller scars and less pain.
Patients and families tend to remember two things about him: that he answers the phone, and that he is in the hospital at 6 a.m. and again at 10 p.m. The technical brilliance is a given. The reassurance is what they hold on to.
From routine HPB surgery to the most demanding multi-visceral transplants, here are the areas he works in most.
Deceased-donor and living-donor liver transplants for adults and children, including auxiliary and split-liver procedures for acute liver failure.
Minimally invasive donor hepatectomy and robotic HPB surgery that is gentler on living donors, with quicker recovery and smaller incisions.
Deceased-donor pancreas transplants and simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation for patients with diabetes and renal failure.
Living-donor and deceased-donor small intestinal transplants, including complex multivisceral cases rarely performed in India.
Hepatectomy, liver resections for hepatocellular cancer, gallbladder and bile duct cancer, peri-hilar cholangiocarcinoma and bile duct injury repair.
Monosegment grafts for infants and living-donor procedures designed around the unique needs of the smallest patients.
Pioneering work isn't a marketing line in transplant surgery. It means a patient who would otherwise have had no option at all. These are firsts attributed to Dr. Chaubal.
